Umm al-Qura is Saudi Arabia's calculated civil calendar for 1 Muharram 1420 AH to 29 Dhu al-Hijjah 1450 AH (17 April 1999 to 13 May 2029). Dates can differ by a day from local moon-sighting announcements; do not use them to decide Ramadan, Eid or Hajj. The month data matches independent datasets but has not been directly verified against the official KACST service.

Formulas

Lookup, not a formula

Each Hijri month start is looked up in a table of calculated Umm al-Qura month starts; a month is 29 or 30 days long as the table says.

There is no leap-year rule: a Hijri year is the sum of its twelve month lengths (354 or 355 days in this range).

Worked example

The Gregorian date 1 October 2026 (a Thursday) is 20 Rabi' al-Thani 1448 AH.

Assumptions

  • Dates come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, Saudi Arabia's calculated civil calendar. It is not a moon-sighting calendar and can differ by a day from local announcements, so it must not be used to decide the start of Ramadan, Eid or Hajj.
  • Only 1 Muharram 1420 AH (17 April 1999) to 29 Dhu al-Hijjah 1450 AH (13 May 2029) is supported. Dates outside this range are refused, never estimated.
  • The Gregorian date shown for a Hijri day is the calendar day on which that Hijri day mostly falls (the Hijri day itself begins at the previous sunset).
  • The month data was cross-checked against independent datasets (hijridate, ICU/CLDR and ummalquracalendar.org), which agree on every month start in this range. It has NOT been directly verified against the official KACST Umm al-Qura service, whose API requires authenticated signing.
  • Month and weekday names are in English. Arabic, right-to-left layout and other languages are not supported yet.
