Hijri Age Calculator
Work out age in Hijri years, months and days from a Hijri date of birth, with the Gregorian equivalents.
Enter a Hijri date of birth, and optionally a Hijri as-of date, to see age in complete Hijri years, months and days, the total days, the weekday of birth, the next Hijri birthday and every date in both calendars. It uses a calculated Umm al-Qura calendar table that covers 1318 to 1500 AH (30 April 1900 to 16 November 2077) only: dates outside that range are refused rather than estimated.

About the calendar data
Dates use this site's validated Umm al-Qura calendar table for 1318 to 1500 AH, a calculated calendar, not moon-sighting. A local announcement can differ by a day, so do not use this page to decide the start of Ramadan, Eid or Hajj. Nothing outside the range is extrapolated, and the table has not been directly verified against the official KACST service. How this calculator works
Inputs
- Hijri date of birth (day, month, year (AH))
- Day, Hijri month and Hijri year (AH), from 1 Muharram 1318 to 30 Dhu al-Hijjah 1500.
- Hijri as-of date (day, month, year (AH))
- The Hijri date to measure age on, inside the same range. If left empty, today is used, provided today is inside the range.
- Calendar
- Gregorian, Hijri or Both. Gregorian counts age in Gregorian years, months and days. Hijri counts it in Hijri months from a calculated Umm al-Qura table (1318 to 1500 AH only). Both shows one Gregorian-basis age with the matching Hijri dates beside it.
Results
- Hijri age
- Complete Hijri years, then remaining complete months, then remaining days.
- Total days, weeks and Hijri months
- Whole days from the date of birth to the as-of date, the complete 7-day weeks in them, and the complete Hijri months.
- Dates in both calendars
- The date of birth and as-of date in Hijri and Gregorian, and the weekday of birth.
- Next Hijri birthday
- The next Hijri anniversary after the as-of date, its Gregorian date, the days remaining and the age reached. Shown only while it falls inside 1318 to 1500 AH.
- Hijri equivalents (Both mode)
- The Hijri date of the date of birth, the as-of date and the next birthday, shown beside the Gregorian dates when they fall between 30 April 1900 and 16 November 2077.
Formulas
Age in Hijri years, months and days
Complete Hijri months are the largest N for which the same day-of-month, N Hijri months after the date of birth, is not after the as-of date. Years = N divided by 12 (whole part); months = the remainder; days = calendar days from that anniversary to the as-of date.
Worked example
For a Hijri date of birth of 10 Rabi' al-Awwal 1425 AH (29 April 2004, a Thursday), as of 25 Ramadan 1445 AH (4 April 2024): the age is 20 years, 6 months and 15 days. Total days: 7,280. Total weeks: 1,040. Total Hijri months: 246. The next Hijri birthday is 10 Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH (13 September 2024), 162 days later, turning 21.
- Hijri date of birth10 Rabi' al-Awwal 1425 AHGregorian: 29 April 2004 (Thursday)
- Hijri as-of date25 Ramadan 1445 AHGregorian: 4 April 2024
Hijri age: 20 years, 6 months and 15 days, counted in Hijri months rather than Gregorian ones.
Next Hijri birthday: 10 Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH (13 September 2024), 162 days later, turning 21.
Assumptions
- Dates come from a calculated Umm al-Qura calendar table for 1318 to 1500 AH. It is a calculated civil calendar, not moon-sighting, and can differ by a day from a local announcement, so it must not be used to decide the start of Ramadan, Eid or Hajj.
- Only 1 Muharram 1318 AH (30 April 1900) to 30 Dhu al-Hijjah 1500 AH (16 November 2077) is supported. A date of birth or as-of date outside it, or a next birthday after 1500 AH, is never estimated or replaced with a Gregorian calculation.
- A month anniversary is the same day-of-month N Hijri months later, counted from the original date of birth. If that month is shorter, the last day of the month is used. This is Calclabb's own convention, not a claim about any organisation's rule.
- The Gregorian date shown for a Hijri day is the calendar day on which that Hijri day mostly falls (the Hijri day itself begins at the previous sunset).
- The month table matches the month starts published on the official Umm al-Qura website (ummulqura.org.sa) in every month that was compared there (a sample spread across 1318 to 1500 AH, not every month), and matches ICU/CLDR and OpenJDK. Microsoft's UmAlQuraCalendar and the hijridate package differ from it outside 1420 to 1450 AH. It has NOT been directly verified against the KACST service itself.
- The date of birth must not be after the as-of date. The calculation uses dates only, with no time of day or time zone. Month and weekday names are in English.
- Gregorian mode and Both mode calculate age on the Gregorian calendar. In Both mode the Hijri dates are calendar equivalents of the same days, from a calculated Umm al-Qura table (1318 to 1500 AH, 30 April 1900 to 16 November 2077), not a second age calculation. A day outside that range gets no Hijri equivalent: it is never estimated.
Common questions
- What range of Hijri dates is supported?
- From 1 Muharram 1318 AH (30 April 1900) to 30 Dhu al-Hijjah 1500 AH (16 November 2077). Anything outside this range is refused with a message, because the calendar table does not cover it.
- Why is my date of birth refused?
- Most likely it is before 1318 AH (before 30 April 1900) or after 1500 AH. The calculator does not extrapolate or guess month lengths outside its verified table.
- How is Hijri age calculated?
- Whole Hijri years, then whole months, then days, counted from the date of birth. Months are 29 or 30 days long as the Umm al-Qura table says.
- What if I was born on the 30th and a month has only 29 days?
- The anniversary is counted on the last day of that month (the 29th). This is the site's own convention, and an organisation may count differently.
- Is this the same as moon-sighting?
- No. Umm al-Qura is a calculated calendar. Local announcements of month starts can differ by a day, so the results are not a religious ruling.
- Why is there no next birthday for some dates?
- If the next Hijri birthday would fall after 1500 AH, it is outside the supported table and is shown as not available instead of being estimated.
- Is my date of birth stored or sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs in your browser on this device. The site has no accounts and no server-side storage of what you enter.
- What do the Gregorian, Hijri and Both modes do?
- Gregorian calculates age on the Gregorian calendar. Hijri calculates it in Hijri months, for dates from 1318 to 1500 AH only. Both keeps one Gregorian-basis age and shows the Hijri equivalents of the same dates beside it.
- Why does Hijri mode give a different age from Gregorian or Both mode?
- Hijri months are shorter than Gregorian ones, so the same two dates give different years, months and days. The total number of days between them is the same in every mode.
