How this calculator works

Inputs

Date of birth
The date to calculate age from.
Cut-off date (age as of)
The date to measure age on, such as the cut-off date a notice states. Defaults to today if left blank.
Calendar
Gregorian, Hijri or Both. Gregorian counts age in Gregorian years, months and days. Hijri counts it in Hijri months from a calculated Umm al-Qura table (1318 to 1500 AH only). Both shows one Gregorian-basis age with the matching Hijri dates beside it.

Results

Age
Complete years, then remaining complete months, then remaining days, on the cut-off date.
Total days, weeks and months
Whole calendar days, complete 7-day weeks and complete calendar months from the date of birth to the cut-off date.
Total hours, minutes and seconds
Total days multiplied out (x24, x1,440, x86,400). Derived from the day count only, not from a time of birth.
Day of birth
The weekday the date of birth fell on.
Next birthday
The first birthday after the cut-off date, the days remaining until it, and the age reached on it.
Hijri equivalents (Both mode)
The Hijri date of the date of birth, the as-of date and the next birthday, shown beside the Gregorian dates when they fall between 30 April 1900 and 16 November 2077.

Formulas

Age in years, months and days

Years and months are the largest whole calendar units from the date of birth to the cut-off date; days are the remainder.

A month "anniversary" is the same day-of-month, counted from the original date of birth. If that day does not exist in the target month, it is capped to the month's last day.

Worked example

The Federal Public Service Commission's notice for the CSS Competitive Examination 2027 (published 2 August 2026) measures age on 31 December 2026. For an illustrative date of birth of 15 March 1996 (a Friday), the age on that cut-off date is 30 years, 9 months and 16 days: 15 March 1996 + 30 years = 15 March 2026; + 9 months = 15 December 2026; + 16 days = 31 December 2026. The next birthday after the cut-off date is 15 March 2027, 74 days later, turning 31. The date of birth is an example only; the notice's own age limits and relaxations decide eligibility, not this calculator.

How the age builds up from the date of birth, step by step
  1. Date of birthMarch 15, 1996
  2. Add 30 yearsMarch 15, 2026
  3. Add 9 monthsDecember 15, 2026
  4. Add 16 daysDecember 31, 2026

Cut-off date (age as of): December 31, 2026. Your age: 30 years, 9 months, 16 days

Next birthday: March 15, 2027. Turning 31

Assumptions

  • Age is calculated as complete years, then complete months, then remaining days, from the date of birth to the cut-off date.
  • This calculator does not apply any age limit, relaxation or eligibility rule. A notice, rule or form that states its own cut-off date or its own way of counting age prevails over this result.
  • A 29 February birthday is treated as 28 February in non-leap years. This is Calclabb's own convention, not a claim about any Pakistani law or organisation's rule.
  • When a month-anniversary day does not exist in the target month (for example, 31 January reaching a 30-day month), the day is capped to that month's last day.
  • Age is calculated on the Gregorian calendar unless you choose Hijri mode (1318 to 1500 AH only). No time of day or time zone is considered, and "today" is the date on your own device.
  • Total hours, minutes and seconds are derived by multiplying the exact total-days figure; they are not calculated from a time of birth.
  • Supported dates run from 0000-01-01 through 9999-12-31, and the date of birth must not be after the cut-off date.
  • Gregorian mode and Both mode calculate age on the Gregorian calendar. In Both mode the Hijri dates are calendar equivalents of the same days, from a calculated Umm al-Qura table (1318 to 1500 AH, 30 April 1900 to 16 November 2077), not a second age calculation. A day outside that range gets no Hijri equivalent: it is never estimated.
  • Hijri mode counts age in Hijri months over the same table. Months have 29 or 30 days, and a 30th that falls in a 29-day month is counted on the last day of that month. The table is a calculated calendar, not moon-sighting, and has not been directly verified against the official KACST service, so it must not be used to decide the start of Ramadan, Eid or Hajj.

Common questions

How do I calculate my age on a cut-off date?
Enter your date of birth, then enter the cut-off date from the notice in the "Cut-off date (age as of)" field and calculate. The result is your age on that date, in years, months and days.
What is a cut-off date in a Pakistani job or exam notice?
It is the date on which a notice says age is measured, which can differ from the day you apply. For example, the FPSC notice for the CSS Competitive Examination 2027 says age is determined on 31 December 2026. Each notice states its own date and its own age limits, so read the notice you are applying under.
Can this calculator tell me whether I am eligible for CSS or another post?
No. It works out your exact age on a date you enter. Age limits, relaxations for particular categories and other conditions are set by each notice and change between notices, so this tool does not store or apply them.
How old do I have to be to get a CNIC?
NADRA states that a CNIC is issued to Pakistani citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and are either unregistered or hold a Child Registration Certificate. To see whether you have reached 18 on a given date, enter your date of birth and that date and check that the age shows 18 years or more. Confirm current requirements with NADRA.
How are leap years and 29 February birthdays handled?
29 February is a valid date of birth in a leap year. In a year that is not a leap year, the 29 February anniversary is treated as 28 February. This is Calclabb's own convention, not a claim about any Pakistani law or organisation's rule; if a notice counts it differently, the notice prevails.
What does "next birthday" mean, and what if the cut-off date is my birthday?
The next birthday is the first birthday after the cut-off date, shown with the days remaining and the age reached. If the cut-off date is itself your birthday, the result says so and shows the age you turn that day.
Can I calculate age in the Hijri calendar?
Yes. Choose Hijri in the Calendar selector to count age in Hijri months, or Both to see the Gregorian age with the Hijri dates beside it. Hijri dates are supported only from 1318 to 1500 AH, and dates outside that range are refused.
Is my date of birth stored or sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser on this device. The site has no accounts and no server-side storage of what you enter.
What do the Gregorian, Hijri and Both modes do?
Gregorian calculates age on the Gregorian calendar. Hijri calculates it in Hijri months, for dates from 1318 to 1500 AH only. Both keeps one Gregorian-basis age and shows the Hijri equivalents of the same dates beside it.
Why does Hijri mode give a different age from Gregorian or Both mode?
Hijri months are shorter than Gregorian ones, so the same two dates give different years, months and days. The total number of days between them is the same in every mode.
